Expedition for Pure Ocean by Watch the Sea
A subaquatic hiking to protect the ocean
Every second 250 kg of plastic waste arrives in the ocean. To raise awareness against this scourge, five members of the Watch The Sea association took concrete action in favor of environmental protection by traveling the entire length of the Calanques Park – approximately 25 kilometers covered in 3 days, in Seatrekking.
But what is Seatrekking? Seatrekking is an original concept combining a sporting adventure of subaquatic hiking and protection of the ocean. Participants are travelling independently long sections of coast over several days, equipped with fins, mask, and snorkels.
These excursions are an opportunity for everyone to take concrete action to protect the environment. Cleaning the seabed as well as collecting information on the state of biodiversity are an integral part of the association’s citizen activities.
As part of the Calanques Propres 2020 operation, from October 17th to 19th, Watch the Sea was committed as an active actor in awareness and change, but also to raise funds for Pure Ocean.
