Big news to share today:
After months of evaluation by our scientific committee, 𝟱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 to better understand and protect the Ocean.
Five projects powered by researchers, teams, and bold ideas… And you’re part of this too, because without your support, none of this would be possible!
Here are the 5 innovative projects we’ll be funding this year:
BioPlastics from the Deep – Netherlands – Pays-Bas – Maastricht University, by Julia Jansing
Inspired by the squid’s jaw to create biodegradable bioplastics.
DEEPEX Carib – Trinidad and Tobago – Speseas, by Diva Amon
Diving to 4,500m to explore unknown abyssal zones and lay the groundwork for local protection.
EMERGE – Mediterranean, France – je navigueraie, by Célia Bertrand
Identifying critical habitats for rays and sharks using environmental DNA and acoustic telemetry.
WHALE TELECOM – Mediterranean, Spain- CSIC, by Miriam Romagosa Verges
Using underwater fiber optics to track fin whales and prevent collisions.
Wings Over Ocean – Spain / North Africa – CSIC, by Isabel Afan
Tracking seabirds to detect illegal fishing in areas where satellites fall short.
Together, we’re advancing science.

Why are this project important? ✨
These projects pave the way for concrete, ambitious and nature-based solutions to the urgent challenges facing the ocean. Each of them has been selected by our scientific committee for its potential for innovation, its impact on practices and its contribution to ocean science.
