Pure Ocean, solutions for protecting the Ocean

The One Ocean Summit begins today in Brest and Pure Ocean is particularly proud to be present. Global warming, acidification, overfishing, plastic and chemical pollution, deep-water mining… the ocean is under pressure and will be the subject of discussions over the next 3 days.
When we talk about ocean protection, the subject is vast and there is so much to be done. That’s why, at Pure Ocean, we support diverse scientific research projects that address different issues.

At Pure Ocean, we place innovation at the heart of our strategy and believe that science and innovation are two effective ways to preserve marine biodiversity.
Pure Ocean supports research projects such as MicroPow, whose goal is to understand the impact of microplastics on wildlife or “Protecting Aegean Coralligenous” to locate and monitor coral reefs in the Aegean Sea, and enforce the ban on trawling in these biodiversity hotspots.

We are only at the early stages of understanding the ocean. Our knowledge gap is huge. To quote Françoise Gaill, a distinguished researcher and member of the Pure Ocean Scientific Committee, “We have no idea what the ocean is.” Indeed, we know the moon better than the deep ocean with 9 out of 10 species still to be discovered.
It is therefore urgent to invest more in ocean research in order to develop our knowledge of this environment on which humanity depends.

Along with financing research projects, one of the objectives of Pure Ocean is to raise public awareness of the need for ocean protection. The preservation of the environment is everyone’s business. In 2021, Pure Ocean created the #LaGoutteBleue movement, a citizen mobilization action that invites everyone to take concrete action to preserve the environment. Thanks to its #LaGoutteBleue kit, each person can collect up to 40l of litter and thus prevent it from ending up in the sea. Last weekend, more than 1500 #LaGoutteBleue bags were distributed to Marseillais who answered the call of 4 associations who organized a massive cleanup of the city’s beaches.
Today, the Pure Ocean team is thrilled to be present at the One Ocean Summit and to participate in the crucial discussions for ocean protection.
