Pendant trois mois, les participants doivent franchir des étapes incontournables, comme celles des trois caps : Bonne Espérance (Afrique du sud), Leeuwin (Australie) et Horn (Chili). Au départ du Port des Sables d’Olonne, les skippers s’élancent dans ce périple : descendre l’Atlantique, contourner le Cap de Bonne Espérance, traverser l’océan Indien et le Pacifique avant d’atteindre le Cap Horn. Puis c’est la remontée de l’Atlantique le long de l’Amérique latine avant de retourner aux Sables d’Olonne. Le parcours du Vendée Globe représente un peu plus de 24 000 milles nautiques soit plus de 40 000 kilomètres.

Sébastien Destremau est un des 33 skippers qui participent à cette fabuleuse aventure. Sur son voilier nommé merci et au lieu d’une quête effrénée à la vitesse, son tour du monde est placé sous le signe de la gratitude. Mais c’est également une course contre l’urgence climatique et contre la destruction de la biodiversité. Sébastien avait envie de dire merci à l’Océan et de s’engager pour sa préservation.

Pour ce Vendée Globe 2020 Sébastien s’engage aux côtés de PURE OCEAN et lève des fonds pour financer la recherche et l’innovation au service de la protection de l’Océan, parce qu’il y a urgence à agir et à s’engager.
