Ce projet vise \u00e0 \u00e9tudier ce ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne naturel en fonction des saisons de mousson dans l\u2019Oc\u00e9an Indien, le bassin oc\u00e9anique se r\u00e9chauffant le plus vite au monde. Mais cette r\u00e9action n\u2019est possible que si le phytoplancton dispose d\u2019azote, un \u00e9l\u00e9ment essentiel \u00e0 tous les \u00eatres vivants. Les micro-organismes qui le leur fournissent sont appel\u00e9s diazotrophes : ils transforment le diazote (N<\/span>2<\/span>) dissous dans l\u2019eau en une forme assimilable par les autres organismes marins, un processus que l\u2019on appelle \u201cfixation de l\u2019azote\u201d et dont les m\u00e9canismes exacts sont encore peu connus selon les r\u00e9gions du monde.<\/span><\/p>\n

Le projet IDEFIX \u00e9tudie la fixation d\u2019azote dans l\u2019Oc\u00e9an Indien en fonction des saisons de mousson. C\u2019est le bassin oc\u00e9anique se r\u00e9chauffant le plus vite au monde, et d\u00e9crypter le r\u00f4le de l\u2019azote et des diazotrophes pourrait permettre d\u2019expliquer pourquoi. De nouvelles esp\u00e8ces de diazotrophes propres \u00e0 cette r\u00e9gion seront \u00e9galement \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir lors de la Seconde Exp\u00e9dition Internationale dans l\u2019Oc\u00e9an Indien (2022).<\/span><\/p>\n
